Happy Read a Book Day from my niece, Mia and me!
I often think that Read a Book Day gives everyone a great excuse to dust off that one book on your bookshelf that you’ve been meaning to get round to and curl up with a hot drink (or glass of wine!) and enjoy.
But as it coincides with the start of the new school year, it’s also a great opportunity to get young people interested in reading.
So, with that in mind, I thought I’d ask my wonderful niece, Mia, aged 9, what she enjoys about reading and who some of her favourite authors are.
Here’s what she had to say…
Me:
“So, Mia, tell me why you enjoy reading.”
Mia:
“I love reading because you can go into a little bubble and escape from everything else. It’s really fun and you get to learn about a lot of different things.”
Me:
“What do you enjoy reading about?”
Mia:
“Mostly everything!”
Me:
“Do you have any favourite books or authors?”
Mia: “I think my favourite books are Harry Potter, obviously your book (I didn’t even ask her to say that! 💖) and Gangsta Granny by David Walliams”
Me:
“And how about writing? Do you enjoy that, too?”
Mia:
“I like writing for the same reasons that I enjoy reading, really. You can go into the zone and just think about that and nothing else.”
It sounds like we might have another budding author in the family!
Thanks to Mia for taking the time to tell me what she enjoys most about reading books, and, as ever, thanks to you all for reading this!
Enjoy Read a Book Day!
